A former colleague and dear friend of mine told me I was in the "neutral zone" as defined in the book Transitions to me. (A couple of other people have recommended this book to me as well). As I wrote in an earlier post, I am ready to start picking up the books I do have and working on the on them again. This seemed like a perfect time to buy this book and start reading it. It certainly made sense when my friend mentioned the "neutral zone" and recommended the book. This post-job quitting time period feels neutral alright. It feels non-directional, rudderless and downright confusing. I can see why people do not choose this option -- to quit their job without another. This is, however, what I chose. I chose to live in the question. In the unknown. The possible reckless option. This is a chance I took to make my life better.
What I do know is the choice has been made. I have made my bed. I have not other choice now but to lie in it.
William Bridges authored the first edition of the book (he has written several other books) 25 years ago when he went through his own major life transition. On his website, he posts the following quote:
CHAOS IS THE PRIMAL STATE
OF PURE ENERGY FOR EVERY TRUE
NEW BEGINNING.
Bring on the chaos.
