So this morning I logged onto the ZenHabits blog. Its subtitle is "smile, breathe and go slowly". That is appropriate for me at this stage after quitting my job and trying to get a grip. I like the posts on this blog.
What I particularly liked about logging on today is the link to the "5 Great Ways to Conquer Self Doubt". Again, rather apropos of my current state of being as mentioned in my post yesterday.
Even better (I seemed to have hit the jackpot this morning in my reading), the article is written by Alexandra Levit. She is a columnist for the Wall Street Journal and the author of "New Job, New You: A Guide to Reinventing Yourself in a Bright New Career." Alexandra is a member of the Business Roundtable's Springboard Project which advises the Obama Administration on current workplace issues. On what extent, exactly, I have not looked into (but I will). It seems very interesting. She has written several books and made several media appearances. You can read about Alexandra, her book etc. at www.newjobnewyou.com.
What interests me most is that it seems this book is not solely about shining up your resume and mass mailing it to the world for another job. It's the reinventing part that interests me. On her site, she lists the motivating factors which cause people to change their careers: family, money, passion, setback, etc. Life changing events. One of the editorial reviews on Amazon caught my attention (I love it that the reviewer is the author of Escape from Corporate America!):
"Career change is scary. Alexandra Levit helps you face the fear and do it anyway. New Job, New You is full of inspiring stories and smart advice for anyone who longs for a more fulfilling career. I love that Alexandra digs down into the motivations that drive career changers and provides guidance tailored to address the causes of job dissatisfaction, not just the symptoms. I will confidently recommend this wonderful book to my career coaching clients."—Pamela Skillings, author of Escape from Corporate America
I am going to pick up the book. I will let you know what I think. It is good to know that others have gone through a similar experience. Helps tamp down on the self-doubt.
