Keeping my eyes open for future opportunities anywhere and everywhere. . .A friend of mine and I were talking about how we thought the ice cream man needs competition. Think about it. He comes to the neighborhoods in the burbs. Rings his bell. The same bell for who knows how long. At least 39 years as far as I know. Same ice cream (a few additions I presume). He rings the bell and apparently, at least in my friend's neighborhood, comes the same time every day (twice, actually). Kids run out, get their ice cream and the ice cream man moves on to his next neighborhood.
The ice cream man's only competition is ice cream at home. Or mom or dad saying no. He has no real other mobile treat truck driving around.
In New York, there are all sorts of treat trucks popping up. Lunch trucks have been around for ages. Think about the pretzel and hot dog stands. But there are more and more "trucks" that are mobile. They drive around the city, stop for a bit, then move on to another location. Why not do that in the burbs? Why not do that and give the ice cream man a run for his money? Why not do it with cupcakes since that seems to be the new hottest treat these days? I love cupcakes. Well, I love the icing. I don't really care for the cake.
Guess what I saw downtown today? The first (or so the truck says) cupcake truck in NYC! It just needs to drive out to NJ! OH WAIT! I just went on the website posted on the side of the truck -- it was started by a recent law school grad frustrated by the legal market and took an unlikely path. Fantastic.
