Two quick thoughts for the day.
Thought #1: If you think quitting your job will change your habits, think this through carefully. While I was working and had extra time, my clean neat closets eventually got messy. They stayed messy until that crazy moment when I decided to pull everything out into them middle of the floor, throw away half, and replace everything neat as a pin. That moment can come at any time. There is no "Spring Cleaning Day". I cannot plan for it. It just happens.
Before my last day of work, I had visions of cleaning out every single closet in one fell swoop. During my last days, I would eye each closet and think to myself, "I can't wait to get my hands on you after I quit when I have all day to clean you out." Well, I now have had all day for some time now. I cleaned out my first closet the evening before I left for Austin, Texas, making my pre-travel evening packing way too long and exhausting. It struck me to clean my closet just like any other time it has struck me. I am waiting for the next wave so I can finish. Maybe I will change my ways and plan to clean out the closets this weekend. . .
Closets are minor issues in life. My point is that change is difficult. Situations do not make you change. You have to want to change. Before you change, you have to recognize the issue at hand. Therein lies half the battle.
Thought #2: If you manage someone, oversee someone or are someone's boss, please say thank you for a job well done. I have had way too many conversations in the past couple of weeks with people who are frustrated with their jobs/supervisors who appear as if they do not care. It's not a raise (although that does not hurt if well deserved). It is a thank you. It does not take much and goes much farther than you might think.
